Chapter 1: An Alternative Approach to CNC
My own interest in CNC began in 2005. Having used 3D design software for many years, I wanted to reproduce 'virtual' creations in the real world.  Work experience of industrial wood fabrication suggested CNC carving as the best route. I designed the CNC router above and built it in 2006. Like many others, I sought advice at online CNC communities about software to exploit the full potential of my machine. Various commercial CNC software was suggested.

I found mainstream commercial tools to be expensive. They focussed on specific tasks, so obtaining a comprehensive set of CNC software was a costly exercise. Applications offering an 'integrated' solution were VERY expensive.  Most CNC software
also did little to develop skills beyond use of a specific featureset.

What if FREE tools were available to address a wide range of CNC tasks ?  What if use was simplified by step-by-step guidance ?  Could this save CNC users money ? Would it improve skills and understanding ?  Are such tools available ?  If so, what are they ?  Where can they be found ? How are they applied to CNC tasks ? This eBook answers these and other questions to help provide genuine opportunity to CNC for FREE.
